Chicago Bears' Coach Lovie Smith's Mom Passes Away
Lovie Smith's Mom Dies At 77
The Coach of NFC Division North Champion Chicago Bears, Lovie Smith, lost his mother, Mae Smith last night as a result of her diabetic illness.
Mae Evelyn Chalk Smith, lost her vision due to diabetes some years ago and her husband Dearion Smith, died in 1996 due to natural causes.
In an interview with a local newspaper back in 2007, the East Texas-born Mae Evelyn, admitted she was always a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys until her son had become the Head Coach of the Bears.
That same year she got to see her son coach in a valiant, yet losing effort in the Super Bowl.
Lovie, didn't just accept his mother's condition, he decided to help others afflicted with the disease.
The former Tulsa University athlete, became an activist of the American Diabetes Association.
He donates ten tickets of every Bears' game to children who are diabetics.
