3-Year-Old Child Considered England’s Youngest Alcoholic…Ever
An unnamed 3-year-old child in England is suffering from the shakes due to withdrawal after it was discovered that the toddler is addicted to alcohol. The dependency is said to have been developed over a six-month period for this effect to take place.
Nicolay Sorenson of advocacy group, Alcohol Concern stated,
“Whatever the circumstances, it is a truly horrifying case and raises very serious child protection issues.”
The youngster was one of 13 people under the age of 12 who were diagnosed as alcoholics by Britain’s National Health Service between 2008 and 2010.
Sarah Matthews, spokeswoman for the British Liver Trust, told The Telegraph,
“This is an extreme case…however, it does raise the issue of the accessibility of alcohol and how normal it has become. The power of cheap alcohol, availability and promotion makes it very difficult for people to consider their health when making decisions about if they drink and how much.”
That makes sense for adults but what does cheap alcohol, availability, advertising and health decisions have to do with a toddler getting buzzed? Isn’t this a case of parenting?
