Kreayshaw Signs With Columbia Records

As we reported last week, 21-year-old Oakland rapper Kreayshawn has inked a major label deal, off the success of her Youtube video “Gucci Gucci.”

Yesterday, the “Gucci Gucci” rapper made an official announcement that she has in fact signed with Columbia Records, a Sony Music Entertainment subsidiary.

“I’m excited to work with my new Columbia family,” Kreayshawn said. “They understand my vision and are going to let me continue everything I’ve been doing. My hope is to inspire others to be young, wild, and free.”

Kreayshawn is believed to have signed a million dollar deal, joining a label that includes stars like Beyonce, John Legend, Maxwell and Adele.

“My passion is just being creative in general,” said Kreayshawn, who has also directed videos for Lil B and Soulja Boy. “I’ve been making music and doing video since I was nine-years-old. It wasn’t like one came before the other and one got me into the other, it’s a joint process.”

Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” video has topped two million Youtube views since being released in May.

Columbia Records plans to release “Gucci Gucci” as an official single on June 14 and will release her debut album later this year.

“My manager has already had artists who’ve signed before so he already had previous relationships with the people we met up with,” she stated.

“He already knew what everyone was about so we definitely knew what we were getting ourselves into and we got a good deal. We have a great lawyer and a great manager so we got a lot of creative control in the process. A lot of what was said was just about being all-around creative and I think that’s why [the label is] excited because they know it’s going to be an endless thing.”
