Missy Elliot Talks Thyroid Disease

Missy Elliot recently revealed that she suffers from a thyroid condition called Graves’ disease.

In an interview with People Magazine, Elliot spoke on the disease, and it’s affects on her everyday abilities, saying, “I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed. … I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad — I couldn’t even use a pen.”

The rap star also spoke about the side effects that she struggled with, which included hair loss and mood swings, but she stated that radiation treatment improved her condition.

“I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising,” she said.

“My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”

Missy Elliot, who has not released an album since her 2005 LP, The Cookbook, plans to release a new album entitled Block Party later this year.
