In the magazine, there’s also a short take on whether he’ll be an effective passer in the pros.
GQ: “I ask if this is a fair question, or a retread of that old ugly trope about black quarterbacks being “natural athletes” and white quarterbacks being “students of the game.”
Newton: “Sir,” he says with granite certainty, “it all comes down to whether a person wins or loses. I don’t bring race into the game, ’cause then you’re talking about excuses. I. Hate. Excuses. Excuses are a disease.”
