When Kobe Bryant hit the NBA court as a rookie he wore the no. 8, but he was rocking the no. 24 when he finally retired. After a sure to be first ballot Hall of Fame career, the Los Angeles Lakers will retire both of the Mamba’s jerseys.

Late yesterday (Sept. 12), the franchised announced both of Beans’ jersey will be hitting the rafters during a ceremony on December 18 at the Staples Center.

“As a kid growing up in Italy, I always dreamed of my jersey hanging in the Lakers rafters, but I certainly never imagined two of them,” said Bryant via a press release. “The Lakers have bestowed a huge honor on me and I’m grateful for the fans’ enthusiasm around this game.”

The Lakers will be playing the Golden State Warriors that night.

Kobe Bryant will be the 10th Laker legend to have his jersey retired. He joins Wilt Chamberlain (13), Elgin Baylor (22), Gail Goodrich (25), Earvin “Magic” Johnson (32), who is currently the team’s President of Basketball Operations, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (33), Shaquille O’Neal (34), James Worthy (42), Jerry West (44) and Jamaal Wilkes (52).

That’s great company to keep. Also, is there no better time for Kobe highlights?
