Sean "Diddy" Combs Announces Revolt Cable Channel [Video]
The mogul known as Sean "Diddy" Combs has a portfolio that is a mile long. You can find everything from music and television producer to vodka pimping and restaurant owner on his resume. Now you can add minority owner of a cable network to that list.
After weeks of unconfirmed reports, Diddy took to his YouTube channel to officially announce his role as minority owner of the music-themed cable network known as Revolt TV. The network has initial plans to include social media in its influence of musical content rather than radio and Billboard charts and to give the artists the opportunity to show their videos raw and uncut. What it sounds like is Diddy plans to bring the internet and blog influence on music to televisions. As Diddy states in the YouTube clip “The revolution will be televised.”
"When I was growing up, I was watching television all the time — I used to wonder, 'Why don't those people look like me, or talk like me or walk like me?'” Diddy asks in the three-and-a-half minute clip. "I grew up watching BET and MTV and HBO and NBC, and I had a dream. I had a dream that one day I would get a chance, an opportunity to show my perspective coming from a musical standpoint.”
Diddy has also invited other cable providers from Direct TV to Time Warner to pick up the channel in the near future. For now, Comcast is the only provider onboard and the network has plans to launch at the end of 2012.
We're just wondering if this means that we'll see a Bad Boy takeover regularly on our televisions.
