Back in January, Jay-Z debuted his newly renovated 40/40 Club in New York City. The venue underwent a $10 million dollar face-lift, resulting in a luxurious establishment that looks nothing close to the previous model. The brain trust behind the new look sports bar was none other than world renowned architect Jeffrey Beers. Beers’ work can be traced from Houston’s Saks Fifth Avenue location to the Atlantis in Dubai. Life + Times sat down with Mr. Beers and discussed his thought process behind designing Jay-Z’s new venue.

When asked what his motivation was to take on the project, Beers responded, “Jay-Z is a true New Yorker and living legend of our time. In addition to his innovative music and brand, he is a sophisticated, approachable, and stylish individual which the 40/40 directly reflects. The intent was to bring more of an upscale residential feel to a sports club lounge in a way that engages both the sports enthusiast and the nightclub goer.”

Beers also spoke on designing another 40/40 location at the Barclay’s Center in downtown Brooklyn. The location will be the home of the NBA’s New Jersey, soon to be Brooklyn, Nets. Continue on for a closer look at the luxurious venue.
