When Nicki Minaj finally unleashes Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded next month, she has decided to tap fellow Queens rapper Nas for support. After fielding off criticism for going too Pop, Minaj quieted the naysayers, for now, by adding Nas, Cam'ron, 2 Chainz and more to her sophomore release.
QB's finest, who appears on the track "Champion," had no qualms about blessing a record with Young Money's resident Barbie. "Nicki hit us up," she told MTV News. "I got love for Nicki, so it was nothin', we did the record." Details surrounding the track, which also include Young Jeezy and Drake, are scarce but as far as Nas goes, he's always down to jump on music that he can stand behind. "It's Hip-Hop music," he added. "Music is music. If I feel it, I can get on it. I heard the track, I felt it, I loved it."
From the looks of it, Minaj's album is shaping up to be a sonic hodgepodge, paying homage to her Hip-Hop roots plus her love for Pop, and will likely include a healthy helping of auto-tune, for good measure. "Maybe it would be a problem if I couldn't deliver records like ‘Roman Reloaded,' but I can," she told Funkmaster Flex in regards to the backlash. "I write my own lyrics. Once again, I write my own lyrics. So it's never a problem. Whatever I feel, I can write, I can create it. So I'm good. I think people sometimes get blown away by the magnitude of the Pop stuff, because the Pop stuff, it reaches everywhere and then I feel like my Hip-Hop fans or Hip-Hop culture starts getting a little bit afraid that I'm going to leave. But this is who I am. I'm not going to change - I'm just adding on to my brand."
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded drops April 3.
