George Zimmerman is back in police custody. The Florida resident quietly turned himself in to authorities Sunday (June 3), two days after a judge revoked his bail on ground that he lied about his financial status.

Zimmerman was given 48 hours to surrender to authorities, and checked into the Polk Correctional Facility, hours shy of his deadline. “He’s solemn. He has a real concern for his safety,” lawyer Mike O’Mara told reporters, noting that he will also request another bond hearing, which he is “entitled to,” under Florida law. As of now Zimmerman has $500 in jail accounts, and  is confined to a 67 square foot solo cell.

During his hearing, Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, claimed to be unaware of the amount of money at their disposal, when in actuality they received $135,000 from onl. The 28-year-old’s bond was set at $150,000, 10 percent ($15,000) of which he posted upon his release in late April. Zimmerman also applied for a second passport but never turned it over to authorities.

The former neighborhood watch captain is expected to stay in prison for several months because he waved his right to a speedy trial, after pleading not guilty to murdering 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin.
