President Obama heads to California Wednesday (June 6) where he will speak with members of the gay community, in an attempt to garner their support. The commander in chief is set to begin his two-day run in the state, first in San Francisco, before ending the day further south, at the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender) Leadership Council Gala, in Beverly HillsDue to high demand, the event was moved to a larger venue, and will be attended by talk show host Ellen Degeneres, among other celebrities. Tickets for the gala start at $1,250 per person, a fee which pales in comparison to the fundraiser in San Francisco which runs $5,000 per person, and his second event of the night in Southern California, at the home of Glee creator Ryan Murphy, costing $25,000 per person.

Since coming out in support of same-sex marriage, Obama has received both praise and criticism. It is predicted that many affluent members of the gay community will help finance his re-election campaign, but there are also those who are not happy with his decision to endorse the controversial topic. Former President Bill Clinton recently stated that the move is “risky,” in that it may discourage support from black voters, who disagree with his views on gay marriage.
