George Zimmerman was so concerned over his wife’s safety that he didn’t want to take any chances. According to new recordings, released Monday (June 18),the 28-year-old encouraged his wife, Shellie, to purchase a bulletproof vest so that she would not meet the same fate as Trayvon Martin—who he shot and killed.

“As uncomfortable as it is, I want you wearing one,” Zimmerman told Shellie during a phone conversation.

The calls, which were used as evidence to support the prosecution’s request to have his bond revoked for lying to the court, also find Zimmerman plotting his escape.  On one recording the accused killer talks about staying at a hotel,  getting away by car, and wearing “his hoodie” to go unrecognized.

Both he and his wife were taken into custody, but Shelly posted bail after 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Zimmerman will sit in jail until his June 29 bond hearing.
