Quincy Jones isn’t a fan of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Jones was the guest of honor at the Spotify Stories Behind the Music event held at the Andaz Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., Tuesday (June 26) where he spoke with host, Bruno Mars about his legendary career and creative process. Noting that he found his way into the industry to escape the criminal activity that surrounded him, the 79-year-old later lashed out at Diddy, who he said “couldn’t recognize a b flat if it hit him.”

Jones went on to state that the Hip-Hop mogul’s strengths have nothing to do with music. “P. Diddy has a doctorate in marketing, he’s got clothes companies, and Ciroc vodka.” he said.

Aside from bashing the Bad Boy head, he also recounted a more than 50-year career that has found him working with the likes of Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, and Frank Sinatra, to name a few. “People bought music before they bought clothes or shoes,” he added.

The event was held to introduce the Spotify app playlist, which allows users to navigate through the extensive 16 million song library by choosing options hand-picked by artists and music experts. Being that he’s worked with just about every big name in the business, Jones’ playlist will likely include songs for which he has contributed.

“This is a relationship with you and the fanbase for the rest of your life,” said Disturbed member David Draiman, who introduced Jones. “I applaud them for trying to dissolve the piracy bug.” With more than 2.5 million users, Spotify has paid out over $100 million in artist royalties, in the last year.

Closing out the event was a performance from 10-year-old piano prodigy, Emily Bear, whose debut album is produced by Jones.
