Early Saturday (July 21) Usher’s 11-year-old stepson was taken off life support after sustaining critical injuries from a Jet Ski accident, and according to the Huffington Post, the singer is “standing strong,” after the tragedy.

The website caught up with Usher’s godfather, Ben Vereen, on the set of his Broadway show New York Live, who revealed that the 33-year-old is seeking support from loved ones. “I’m proud of [him] because he’s standing strong,” said Vereen.

Kile Glover was struck by family friend, Jeffrey  Hubbard, while at Lake Lanier near Atlanta in early July. The child was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brain dead by doctors. After two weeks of hoping things would turn around, according to Global Grind his heart stopped beating, forcing the family to remove him from life support.  Glover’s mother, and Usher’s ex-wife, Tameka Raymond, has remained silent as she grieves the loss of one of her five boys. “It’s a terrible thing when a parent has to bury their child,” Vereen added. “No parent should ever have to bury his or her child. I know because I buried one. So please continue your prayers for him and [his] family for strength and healing.”

Glover is son of longtime Atlanta TV executive, Ryan Glover, who is president of the new Black digital network Bounce TV.
