KRS-One – “It’s Gettin’ Hectic” (Prod. By DJ Premier) (Previously Unreleased) [LISTEN/DOWNLOAD]

Now this is a pleasant surprise for any true school rap fan. The DJ Premier Blog points out that this previously unheard track, “It’s Gettin Hectic,” was originally supposed to appear on KRS-One’s Return of the Boom Bap album back in 1993. The collaborative project with DJ Premier was the Bronx rapper’s first proper solo LP without Boogie Down Productions. The song finds the Blastmaster dropping his trademark socio-political rhymes (the Bill Clinton administration and Tipper Gore get name checked) over a jazzy yet drum charged beat from Premo.

Why this song ended up on the cutting room floor is unknown right now. But thank DJ JS-1 for including it on his DEMOlition Mix that features three hours of demos from classic artists. For at least a couple of years there has been talk of Premier and KRS dropping a new album called Return of the Boom Bip, that was to be released on the former’s Year Round record label. However, the project has yet to see the light of day.

We’ll settle for “It’s Gettin’ Hectic,” which you can listen to and download below, for now.
