Lia Neal has earned herself a bronze medal. The 17-year-old Brooklyn native landed in third place, along with her teammates, in the women’s 4×100-meter relay race.

Heading to London was a family affair for the teen. “YAY I have my fam, coach, and best fran here in LDN with me! Wont see them til after I race but it’s nice to know we’re in the same country,” she tweeted Friday (July 27).

For her first time at the Olympics, Neal swam in he morning preliminaries, as well as an evening race.

The teen has garnered the support of her borough, with the Twelve Bar Co. creating “Swim Brooklyn” t-shirts in honor of the high school student. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go to benefit the USA Swimming Foundation.

Although she is bi-racial, Neal, is noted as the second Black woman to make it on the U.S. Olympic swim team.
