In an interview with BlowHipHopTV, Hypnotized Mind’s Lil Wyte shared his childhood rap influences, and explained how Three 6 Mafia allowed him to put out an album on his own due to his strong tenure with the label. The Memphis rapper begins the interview by detailing his childhood years as a southern Hip-Hop junkie while also citing Sir Mix-a-Lot’s  “Baby Got Back” as the first rap song he ever memorized. However, it was after listening to Geto Boys’ “Mind Playing Tricks On Me,” that his voraciousness for rap grew stronger, which led him to find a cassette of one of Three Six Mafia’s first underground albums.

“Weeks later, I’m just researching now,” said Wyte. “Now, I’m looking for more. I want more, and I come across Triple 6 Mafia. Not Three 6 Mafia. Triple 6 Mafia.  A tape with a sticker on that  joint that you can get from the little store down the street, and that’s the only place you can get them from. I played that Triple 6 Mafia… It was a wrap.”

After working side by side with his childhood heroes for years, Wyte said Juicy J and DJ Paul gave him permission to record and promote his album without their assistance. He later expressed his gratitude for Three 6 Mafia, giving them a salute for having faith in him to record and release an album on his own.

“It’s an honor, bro,” he said. “Like really. I grew up listening to Three Six, man, like, tough. Like, tough, tough. So, to be at the point where I done so much work with Paul and Juice that they give me enough faith to record my own album. Pssh… Salute Paul and Juice. F****** love ya’ll. Real talk.”

Lil Wyte’s latest album, Still Doubted?, is out now and you can cop it here. Watch the full interview below.
