The mother of a 26-year-old Chicago man shot by an off-duty cop after mistakenly running over his daughter, has spoken out about the tragic incident.

Blanca Winters, is looking for answers in the shooting death of her son, Christopher Middleton, and is still digesting the loss. “I don’t understand why [the off-duty officer] actually shot my son and killed him, after he was trying to protect his daughter,” she said.

Upon hearing the news of his death, Winters said she “broke down,” and will hire an attorney to get to the bottom of the situation. “This is actually a wrongful death. He had no business shooting my son,” she said.

Winters failed to go into further detail regarding the exact legal route she will take in seeking justice for her son, but she vowed to do “everything that’s possible that can be done.” She also believes that her son’s autopsy report will “tell it all.”

Middleton was shot after the cop ran over his 4-year-old daughter. The child was crossing the street with her cousin, when the officer lost control of his motorcycle, and struck her. Once Middleton found out he approached the cop and allegedly attacked him, before being shot. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

His daughter is expected to recover from her injuries.
