MTV doesn’t want its audience to make a decision between watching their Video Music Awards, and President Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, Thursday (Sept. 6). To kill any potential conflict, the network has moved up their show by an hour to give viewers the opportunity to tune in to the commander in chief, after watching the likes of Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Frank Ocean, and more take the MTV stage.
The show will now begin at 8 p.m. EST and end at 10 p.m. EST, just in time for the start of the president’s speech.
Coming off the speech of his wife, Michelle Obama, Tuesday (Sept. 4), the POTUS may have some stiff competition. Mrs. Obama’s address garnered mostly favorable reviews as she painted her husband as a man putting his morals and family at the forefront of all his decisions. “I’ve seen how the issues that come across a president’s desk are always the hard one– the problems where no amount of data or numbers will get to the right answer,” she said. “At the end of the day, when it comes to make that decision, as President all you have to guide you are your values, and your vision, and the life experiences that make you who you are.” The first lady was met with cheers and ovations, as she set the tone for the three-day convention.
President Bill Clinton is scheduled to speak at the DNC later tonight.
