Once upon a time, up and coming artists humbly paid homage to Hip-Hop’s O.G.s and while those days seem to be finito, Asaad drops “Raekwon Rap,” an ode to the raw spitting the track’s Staten Island namesake is known for. Don’t expect any of RZA’s patented chops and sample work here, though. Rather than using an old Wu-Tang instrumental, the young North Philly MC spits clever, multisyllabic bars about the life of a coke kingpin over some jazzy production from Nascent & QB.

“Raekwon Rap” is the first single from Asaad’s forthcoming project, Troy, which currently doesn’t have a release date. With acclaimed underground projects like #DIRTYMIDDLECLASS and New Black History under his belt, it’s my guess that Troy will be the up and comer’s three peat, and hopefully the project that gains him notoriety. Zone out to the imagery in Asaad’s bars after the jump.
