Blue Note Records Launches Spotify App

EMI’s Legendary Blue Note Records, announced the launch of a new innovative app through Spotify, Wednesday (Sept. 12). Making for a richer user experience, the Blue Note apps creates a space for listeners to explore and discover music from 1939  to present day. From jazz offerings courtesy of Sidney Beth, the bebop of Thelonious Monk, or Donald Byrd’s R&B fusion, the app provides for a cross-genre modern-day exploration of a vast musical catalog.

“In the great tradition of Blue Note Records, our new Spotify app pushes the boundaries of the digital listening experience,” Blue Note Records president, Don Was, said in a statement. “Catering to both the educated aficionado and new fans alike, this innovative interface provides music fans with a clean, user-friendly doorway to hours of discovery and musical gratification.”

The app’s features include the chronological placement of Blue Note’s recordings, plus a filter provided for users to search songs by era. “Blue Note is virtually synonymous with jazz music and their new app is a great example of music experts taking advantage of the Spotify platform to foster deep music discover and appreciation,” added head of content at Spotify, Steven Savoca. “Our passionate users now have a curated experience to guide them through the vast amount of jazz music on Spotify.”

Blue Note has also partnered with the website, Who Samples, to allow users to take a virtual tour of music containing tracks from their catalog, pairing the original versions with samples by artists like the Beastie Boys, The Roots, Common, Usher, and Wu-Tang Clan.
