Whitney Houston To Be Honored By CBS & Lifetime With Special Tribute Programs

The late Whitney Houston will be honored with two network specials this coming November, just a few month shy of anniversary of the tragic passing of the iconic vocalist on February 11th, 2012 on the eve of the 54th Grammy Awards. The shocking news was announced during a live broadcast of the awards show, with the singer’s death ruled an “accidental drowning” weeks later.

According to a press release made public earlier this week from Lifetime, the first of the two specials, “Remembering Whitney,” will air October 17th on the network at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The show precedes the upcoming Lifetime reality series The Houstons: On Our Own, a 14-episode program which makes its debut on October 24th. The show will focus on Houston’s 19-year-old daughter Krissy (Bobbi Kristina), family matriarch Cissy and others closely related to the star.

The CBS network will also be broadcasting a tribute for the fallen songstress titled “We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston,” which will air November 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Along with some of Houston’s standout performances and a look back at her successful career, singers Usher, Celine Dion and Jennifer Hudson headline a bevy of performers who will pay their respects via song. The event will be taped at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on October 11.

The Recording Academy is producing the CBS special, fitting as Houston has snagged six Grammy awards and graced the stages at the program eight times as a featured performer. Houston’s legacy as a top-selling recording artist is well established, with a combined sales of singles, albums and videos numbering well over 170 million sold.
