Joey Bada$$ Talks Wanting To Work With Nas, His Legacy & More [VIDEO]
Joey Bada$$ proves yet again that age sometimes has no bearing on one’s wisdom, point of view or candor. In a recent interview with Montreality, the Canada based site asked the Brooklyn MC an array of left field questions, as per usual, with topics ranging from who the “Waves” MC thinks he was in his past life to what his last meal would ideally be. The interview gives fans a better look at Joey Bada$$ the person, rather than the artist.
Joey Bada$$ most notably spoke on fans misconstruing the purpose of Rejex, saying, “I don’t know. People starting anticipating Rejex too much. My whole plan for it was just like [to] one day wake up and just drop the download link. I didn’t really want it to be anything big.”
“I love some of the tracks that’s on Rejex, but it’s not like a next tape. It’s not a step forward from 1999, it’s a step backwards,” said Bada$$, who was speaking to the fact that Rejex is comprised of songs, that are in some cases two to three years old, that didn’t make 1999.
The young MC has his legacy in mind, as well. “Influence, that’s all I really want to leave behind is influence,” Joey Bada$$ explained. “The fact that people could like take something from my music, learn from it, add to it… like you know? The fact that my music can make someone like a better rapper, because like I get that a lot. People say ‘You’re like the cure to my writer’s block,’” said the young MC just before closing out the interview with daps and praises.
