George Zimmerman’s is now aware of when he’ll have his day in court. The second-degree murder trial stemming from the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin has been scheduled for June 10, a Florida judge announced Wednesday (Oct. 17).

Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson set the date which falls more than a year after the unarmed teen’s death, but according to Zimmerman’s lawyer there are still more details that need to be worked out. With a hearing to determine whether or not the 29-year-old used self-defense when shooting the high schooler, and other discrepancies hanging in the balance, the date may not be set in stone. Zimmerman’s defense team also took issue with prosecutors slow pace in releasing evidence to them.

“I don’t know today when we’ll be ready for trial,” attorney Mike O’Mara said.

Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda said that jury selection will likely take longer than the actual trial, which is scheduled to last roughly three weeks. Judge Nelson has set a status hearing for Dec. 10 in which both sides are to appear in court to argue their motions.

Although initially questioned and released, special prosecutor later brought Angela Corey brought second-degree murder charges against the former neighborhood watch captain. Zimmerman has stated that he shot the teen in an act of self-defense and sought protection for his actions under Florida’s “stand your ground” law which allows citizens to use excessive force if necessary to protect themselves.

Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, is also facing legal action, via a perjury charge for allegedly deceiving the court about her husband’s finances. Her hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12.
