Jesse Jackson Jr. has given a second statement on his well-publicized health and professional issues. The U.S. Representative has been away from his political post for several months but he wants it to be known that he’s trying to get through a tough time.

During an 90-second automated address to his constituents, Jackson acknowledged that he hasn’t been to work for a while, falling short of pinpointing a return date. “Like many human beings, a series of events came together in my life at the same time and they’ve been difficult to sort through,” Jackson said in the recording, posted on Chicago radio station WBEZ’s website. “I am human. I’m doing my best. And I am trying to sort through them all.”

With his re-election date less than three weeks away, Jackson has not campaigned, but his wife stated that he is running for a position in the 2nd District. Nonetheless, he is likely to win another bid, given the highly Democratic area, and the fact that he’s held the position for 18 years.

Amid dealing with his bipolar disorder, the 47-year-old has become the subject of an FBI probe over misuse of official funds. He is also said to be returning to the Mayo Clinic for more treatment.
