Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Sells 1 Million Copies In One Day Just At GameStop

Did you get your hands on a copy of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 yesterday? Then you have a lot of company. Video game retailer GameStop reports that they sold over $1 million copies of the highly anticipated shooter during its midnight launch.

According to Bloomberg,

“‘Black Ops II’ is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,” Tony Bartel, president of the Grapevine, Texas-based chain, said yesterday in an e-mail. “GameStop sold more than 1 million units worldwide during our midnight launch period.”

The latest installment in the top-selling “Call of Duty” franchise went on sale timed to take advantage of the coming holiday shopping season. The title, which retails for about $60 in the U.S., “shattered pre-order records” set last year by “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,” according to a statement yesterday from Activision.

An analyst named Michael Olson of Piper Jaffray Cos. believes that when the finally tallies are all in, Black Ops 2 will have sold between 6.5 million and 7.2 million units in a single day in the UK and US combined. Last year’s Call Of Duty title, Modern Warfare 3, broke records with 6.5 million copies sold its first day in s US and UK stores.

There are no official totals from the game’s manufacturer, Activision, yet.

That’s cool there’s a lot of COD fans out there, I wish I could buy it too, but I can’t afford the price tag. I was sold on playing the game after watching the first few minutes of the demo over at a co-worker’s house from DISH, so I put it in my Blockbuster@Home queue. Blockbuster@Home from DISH I believe is the most economical way to rent games and it even comes with a free trial! I can’t wait to start playing the game at home myself, it looks and plays awesome. I can tell that playing this game isn’t going to end any time soon. I know it’s probably worth the purchase price, but I’ll try it out first before I decide to buy it.
