Jack Taylor, a sophomore guard at Division III Grinnell, gets buckets. Last night against Faith Baptist Bible, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Black River Falls, Wis. native scored 138 points in his team's 179-104 victory.
Taylor broke the previous NCAA record of 113 points in single game set by Bevo Francis of Rio Grande in 1954. Taylor went 52 for 108 and 27 for 71 from 3-point range. We'll do the math for you, that's 48% from the field (pretty good) and 38% from range (not bad at all).
However, we got questions, though. Like, who was defending him? And, you shot the ball 108 times? 108?!
The AP reports that even Carmelo Anthony and Raymond Felton were amazed by that factoid. "I never heard of nothing like that," Melo told the Associated Press. "That's like a video game. How can you shoot 100 times, though?
Said Felton, "His elbow has got to be sore." Pause.
Kevin Durant has praise for Taylor, too. "Jack Taylor you deserve a shot of Jack Daniels after that performance lol...wow," tweeted KD.
