This is sad news for fight fans around the world. Former boxing champion Hector “Macho” Camacho has been declared brain dead by Dr. Ernesto Torres, director of the Centro Medico trauma center in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The boxing legend’s representatives told TMZ that his family has decided to remove Camacho from life support. The New York Daily News reported yesterday his kin had been debating whether or not to take Camacho off life support and had agreed to wait a couple of more days.

On Tuesday, November 20th, Camacho was shot in a drive by shooting in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The boxer was in the passenger seat of a Ford Mustang parked outside a bar when another vehicle pulled along side and opened fire. The 50 year-old was shot in the face and neck while the driver, Adrian Mojica Moreno, of the vehicle he was riding was also struck and died from his injuries.

Ten baggies of cocaine were reportedly found in the vehicle, with nine on Moreno’s person and an open baggie in the car.

Camacho, who was born in Puerto Rico, but grew up in Spanish Harlem, had a career record of 79-6-3. Rest In Power Hector “Macho” Camacho.
