Hip-Hop critics who spend more time focusing on negative aspects of the culture, should examine the career and life of independent MC Macklemore. Not many figures in the gamehave layers like the Seattle wordsmith, who recently exposed a little about his past in New York City with The Breakfast Club.

The entertaining radio ensemble ran through a gamut of topics with Macklemore, including how he met Ryan Lewis on MySpace, his jobs before rap, having a past drug addiction, being labeled a conscious rapper, the life of an independent artist, the doors “Same Love” opened and more.

Recognizably humble, Macklemore cites the authenticity and vulnerability in his music as contributing factors in his success.”I’m a writer that I feel like people get to know me through the music that I write. So they already feel like they know me by the time that they’re coming to the show for the first time.”

He caps off the interview with a heart warming freestyle. See the full interview below.
