Update: Psy has issued an apology for the lyrics from a previous song, stating that the song in question was from a “deeply emotional” time, and that he will be “forever sorry” for the lyrics.

Well this is awkward.

Psy, the Korean rapper who became an Internet sensation thanks to his “Gangnam Style” track, which stands as the most viewed video on YouTube, wasn’t always into dance music. Before he was a household name, Psy rhymed about r@ping and torturing American soldiers, and their families.

From Vulture:

During a 2004 protest against the U.S. presence in Iraq following the beheading of a Korean missionary, Psy, during a song called “Dear American” by the band N.E.X.T., rapped the following lines:

Kill those f-cking Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives

Kill those f-cking Yankees who ordered them to torture

Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers

Kill them all slowly and painfully

Despite his political thoughts, America has more than embraced the South Korean star. He’s made over a million dollars off the track, a number that will rise if you include royalty checks.

Psy is scheduled to join President Obama at the National Building Museum’s Christmas event this weekend, but he might want to keep those disparaging lyrics on the low.
