With “R.A.I.D.” doing numbers in the blogosphere, Cassidy called up to DJ Caesar of Philly’s Hot 107.9 this morning to clarify the “beef” between him and Meek Mill. During the phone conversation, the “I’m a Hustla” MC discusses where the beef stemmed from, how surprised he was by Meek’s decision to diss him on “Repo,” and more.
Depending on who you ask, the Internets are buzzing with whispers that the Hustla got the best of the MMG rapper on the latest diss, and it’s clear that he isn’t surprised.
“Well you know, that’s what I do. I rhyme; I got bars, so I could just go as long as I wanted to,” said Cassidy, who described the track’s length as organic. “It’s not like a I planned it to be exactly 10 minutes. I just planned to just go in, and get a lot of things off my chest. So, it just turn out to be that amount of time.”
Before the beef got taken out of context, Cassidy was quick to add, “I just want everybody to know [that] this ain’t no real street beef like people [are] trying to create it into. I know the media gets entertained off making it into street beef and things like that, but it ain’t nothing like that.
“Everybody know that I was looking out for Meek as much as I possibly could before he got on. Doing songs with him, coming to hold him down whenever he asked me to and things like that. So I don’t want people to think it’s a street beef or nothing like that. I’m just competitive, and I was feeling disrespected lyrically; like he wasn’t respecting the ground work I laid down, the work I put in for Philadelphia, the city we’re both from. I just felt disrespected on that level.”
Don’t be confused, though. Don’t see this as Cassidy copping pleas. He actually openly advised Meek Mill to take the high road in this battle, if he knows what’s good for him. “When he came out with a whole song dissing me and all that, I’m like ‘Oh he must be really ready to take it there.’ So that’s why I did the song ‘R.A.I.D.’ to let him know, if you going to step in this field you got to be prepared, ’cause this what I really do.
“And you heard it out his own mouth. I been in over 5000 battles, and I never lost. And I don’t plan on losing. So if you know that information, you should know not to play around with a dude like me.”
