Kendrick Lamar Reacts To Nas' GKMC Praise [VIDEO]
Life's been a roller coaster ride for Kendrick Lamar since the release of his critically acclaimed LP good kid, M.A.A.D. city. Deemed by many in Hip-Hop as the crown jewel of 2012, people exalted the Compton rapper as the next coming. Even Nas, who dropped a phenomenal album with Life is Good, didn't hesitate to praise K. Dot's opus.
When asked which albums stood out to him last year, Nas replied “No disrespect to nobody else in rap music, but Kendrick Lamar. I'm really happy about his record. I needed that. His record reaches you. It gives you hope...”
The "Swimming Pools" rapper was unaware of Nas' praises, until a recent interview with Fuse.
"That's amazing just off the fact [that] it's Nas," said Kendrick. "You can hear the influence in my music. You hear the influence in my story telling. For somebody that's an elite player for so many years, a veteran as far as longevity and skill, that's an accomplishment... just those words alone."
The lofty acknowledgment doesn't surprise Kendrick though. "I know the work and the time that I put into this album. Months and no sleep, and just working in that studio," said the TDE rapper, who admits that he had expectations for the LP to be a staple in this generation.
