Things still aren’t going well for Lance Armstrong. The disgraced athlete has been stripped of his Olympic medal for doping, it was announced today.

In spite of his confession to using performance enhancement drugs, the International Olympic Committee has gone forward with its plan to snatch back the bronze medal he won at the 2000 Sydney games.

While the IOC’s board began discussions about taking the medal in December the decision was delayed pending notification that Armstrong had been stripped of his seven Tour de France titles. He was given 21 days to appeal and after the deadline passed the IOC upheld their decision.

The IOC sent a letter to Armstrong telling him to return the medal. “Having had confirmation from UCI that Armstrong has not appealed the decision to disqualify him from Sydney, we have written to him to ask for the return of the bronze medal,” said IOC spokesman Mark Adams. “We have also written to USOC to inform them of the decision.”

This latest chapter in Armstrong’s story comes on the same day that his interview with Oprah Winfrey is set to air. In the nearly two-hour sit-down the father of two admitted to the very allegations that he has denied, and even joked about, for several years. “I don’t think ‘emotional’ beings to describe the intensity or difficulty he experienced in talking about some of these things,” Winfrey said on CBS This Morning earlier in the week.

Armstrong’s interview airs on the OWN network at 9 p.m.
