Skyzoo ft. Talib Kweli – “Spike Lee Was My Hero” [VIDEO]
Spread love is the Brooklyn way, and Skyzoo employs that mantra on “Spike Lee Was My Hero,” a track commemorating the infamous director’s legacy. Fellow videographer Alex Ghassan manned the camera to create a complimentary set of visuals, featuring scenes, posters, and more from a gamut of the Do the Right Thing director’s filmography.
On the song itself, Skyzoo details how Spike’s greatest contributions to King’s County molded him as a man and a MC. Another Brooklyn native in Talib Kweli also recollects about the days he walked past the 40 Acres & A Mule headquarters on the Tall Black Guy-produced song. Spike Lee, who’s love for BK’s Fort Greene & Bedford Stuyvesant sections is well documented, even makes a cameo appearance in the shots.
“Spike Lee Was My Hero” is one of 15 tracks from Skyzoo’s under appreciated, but extremely good album A Dream Deferred. Other notable songs from the project include “Jansport Strings” and “Give It Up”. Those who are late on the LP, but are looking to redeem themselves can purchase it here.
