Dallas Mavericks’ NBDL Affiliate Looking To Sign Allen Iverson

Those of you who believe Allen Iverson deserves one final shot at the NBA may have your prayers answered very soon.

The Texas Legends, the NBDL affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks are lobbying Allen Iverson to try to work his way back to the NBA. Iverson has not played in the NBA since 2009 in a short-lived stint with the Memphis Grizzlies and an even shorter-lived return to the Philadelphia 76ers. That season was followed by an injury-filled stint with Besiktas in Turkey that lasted only 10 games.

Iverson has resisted signing for lucrative deals in China because for the past two seasons he has been waiting for one last run at the league where he was the Most Valuable Player in 2001. The Texas Legends have tried all year to sign Iverson, but are ramping up their efforts again now because they’ve moved back to the top of the list in the D-League’s waiver line, meaning they’d have a direct path to signing Iverson if he could be convinced to put his name in the D-League’s player pool.

A good sign that a return from “The Answer” is closer than ever is when 37-year-old NBA veteran Mike James signed with the Legends and was eventually called up to the Mavericks. James eventually earned two 10-day contracts and now a guaranteed contract throughout the season. Iverson is an 11-time All-Star and ranks 19th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 24,368 career points. Iverson was 18th before he was passed by Mavericks franchise player, Dirk Nowitzki, this past Sunday.
