Exclusive: CyHi The Prynce Talks Ghostwriting & Earning Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Co-Sign

GOOD Music’s CyHi The Prynce has contributed to the creation of much of Kanye’s recent catalog, including My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and last year’s Watch The Throne LP, but the Atlanta native is still waiting on his moment. Hopefully it will arrive with today’s release of his fifth mixtape, Ivy League: Kickback, hosted by DJ Holiday.

When asked whether or not there is any truth to the growing rumors regarding his writing for Yeezy, CyHi tells Hip-Hop Wired, “No. I mean, no…,” he continues slowly, “I’m just there to vibe man. If you hear something in the beat that you like, you may say, ‘Ay! You might wanna keep that!’ Or whatever,” he says with a laugh. “But I’m just there for whatever they may need me for. There are a lot of creative minds in the room.”

It’s a valid question though as CyHi is one in a small circle of Atlanta rappers to maintain clever bars as well as club appeal. While the masses marvel at Kanye’s increasingly cunning rhyme skills, the “Far Removed” rapper remains a fixture at the studio during recording sessions. He admits that he’s aware of the whispers. “I mean, yeah, I’ve heard that before but I can’t answer that,” he states, “I’m just letting you know that it’s a team. Teamwork makes dreams work.”

“Even with the president [Obama],” he adds, “Y’all see him come out and give the speech but a lot of people had something to do with it. Like, ‘Say it this way,’ or ‘Give it this feeling,’ so yeah, that’s just with every artist. Not just with [Kanye]. There are a lot of people in the room that give off energy- smoke some weed, drink some liquor and vibe out, you know?”
