Announced today, Latifah— who owns the company alongside partner, Shakim Compere— netted an exclusive licensing agreement for movies in the U.S.
“We are delighted to work with Queen Latifah to be the exclusive destination for what are sure to be relevant, entertaining movies,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos. “Queen Latifah has a long track record of creating hits and Flavor Unit Entertainment is a fresh and exciting voice in the industry.”
Netflix will choose which of the Flavor Unit projects will run on their television subscription service.
“Shakim and I are thrilled to do business with Netflix,” Latifah said in a statement. “Netflix is such a strong brand and the perfect place to showcase our projects.
Through Flavor Unit, Latifah has brought various projects to air, including the VH1 scripted series Single Ladies, and the Lifetime remake of Steel Magnolias, which was the network's third most-watched telecast.
