It’s been 12 long years since Mystikal has released a solo album. Between a six-year jail sentence and other run-ins with the law, the Louisiana native is back with his new album, Original

Now signed to Birdman’s Cash Money records, Mystikal revealed in a recent interview with Rolling Stone that the high-adrenaline MC will feature Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Future, Busta Rhymes and New Orleans’ Trombone Shorty and the Stooges Brass Band on his new album.

“The sound that’s prominent on the radio, and on hit records now, all that sound the same. I don’t want all my hits to sound like that. I’m writing songs to perform, to entertain,” says the former No Limit Records artist. “When I’m really trying to get inspired, I go backwards and I just rap.”

The “Shake It Fast” rapper who recently finished an additional two month bid after violating probation, struggled to readjust to his current audience.

“The first thing I had to do when I came home is see who the f**k I was talking to, you know, because I had some live rounds, because I wasn’t hitting the target,” he says. “It’s really the backpack kids that you’ve got to get. That little motherf**ker that jumped over my head with the skateboard and the Beats headphones playing Lil Wayne. To win, you’ve got to get him.”

Original is tentatively scheduled for a mid-2013 release date.
