Lil Boosie is using his time behind bars wisely. The Louisiana rapper completed his GED course at the Angola State Prison recently.

Born, Torence Hatch, members of Boosie’s family attended the cap-and-gown ceremony, commemorating the receipt of his GED.

Boosie, who is serving an eight-year-sentence on drug charges, was absolved of any involvement in a murder that could’ve had him locked up for life. He has been serving time for more than two years, and in May was found not guilty of killing 35-year-old Terry Boyd. Prosecutors built the case on a confession from alleged hit man Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding (claims which he later abandoned during the trial), and Boosie’s violent lyrical content, which was not enough to convince a jury.

Although he was given nearly a decade in custody, Boosie could be released much sooner than expected. According to a Spin interview earlier in the year, he may be paroled as early a 2014.
