Nardwuar is slowly leaking a string of interviews from this year’s SXSW festival. The first featured Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew, and the follow up is with the one and only Trinidad Jame$. During this sit down, Canada native asked the ATLien about his Caribbean roots, some of his favorite food spots in the A, stripper’s favorite meals and more.
If you didn’t know, the “All Gold Everything” rapper is a lot more soft-spoken than his music would leave you to think, but he recalled his days working at a restaurant with interesting patrons.
“Definitely worked at the Waffle House that was right there by Onyx. That’s why when I said it in the song, that’s why I knew so much about the strippers. They used to come in and come eat with me,” recalled James. “Pork chop and eggs, that’s the stripper meal. Pork chop and eggs, toast with a lot of butter, extra egg; that’s the stripper meal.”
Food was a constant theme during the interview, as was James’s homecoming concert after the explosion of “All Gold Everything” at Atlanta’s MJQ venue. “That was like one of the craziest shows I’ve ever done in my whole life; period. Nothing really tops that. It was at home, and it was so wild that I really had to hang from the roof. It was crazy.”
