As one of Hollywood’s most celebrated power couples, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith get loads of attention. Over the course of their 16-year union, rumors of an open marriage have persisted. Pinkett Smith opened up about the murmurs regarding her relationship yesterday (April 4), sparking even more discussion about the supposed arrangement.

Pinkett Smith was a guest on HuffPost Live with host Marc Lamont Hill, and he wasted no time in quelling the curiosities of many regarding the rumor. Gamely, Pinkett Smith answered him but kept it just vague enough for varied interpretation.

“I think people get that idea because Will and I are very relaxed with one another,” responded Pinkett Smith. “I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay. I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that’s not for me to do for him. Or vice versa.”

Hill expertly mentioned another Hollywood couple that also had a rumored similar situation in Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. Pinkett Smith spoke to that point and the struggles of marriage, saying she and her husband maintain their individuality but respect their partnership as well.
