Former Baylor hoops star Brittney Griner is the WNBA‘s No. 1 draft pick, and she also happens to be gay. The 6’ 8″ forward came out during an interview with fellow draft picks Skylar Diggins and Elena Delle Donne.

Griner, who will be playing for the Phoenix Mercury, mentioned her orientation when the topic of whether female pro athletes are more accepting of homos-xuals then their male counterparts came up during a video interview with Sports Illustrated.

“I really couldn’t give an answer on why it’s just so different. Being one that’s out, it’s just being who you are,” said Griner. “Again, like I say, just be who you are. Don’t worry about what other people are going to say, because they’re always going to say something, but, if you’re just true to yourself, let that shine through. Don’t hide who you really are.”

Griner added, “It really wasn’t too difficult. I wouldn’t say I was hiding or anything like that. I’ve always been open about who I am and my s-xuality. It wasn’t hard at all If I can show that I’m out and i’m fine and everything’s okay, hopefully the younger generation will definitely feel the same way.”

Salute to Brittney Griner, she gets buckets. Watch the interview below.
