Gunplay Renames Debut Album Living Legend, Talks Reebok & More [VIDEO]
Gunplay rose Hip-Hop’s rank in 2012, and almost fell just as quickly due to armed robbery charges that had him facing a life sentence if convicted. However, the case was dismissed in late February and the “Human L.A. Riot” is back to prepping his debut album, which he discussed, among other things, with the good folks at HipHopSince1987.com.
Gunplay, a character like no other, revealed that his Def Jam debut will no longer be titled Medellin. “Changed the name from Medellin. Now it’s Living Legend,” said the MMG rapper, who says he’s taking time with the project.
Despite plans to release said LP, Gunplay isn’t pressed to release it because he’s seeing ample funds from touring. He also credits his lax ideals to an old school approach to creating tunes. “I grew up when an artist that you loved put out an album once maybe every f***ing three years,” remembered Gunplay, speaking to his desire to make a classic rather than have a quick turnaround.
The Florida native says that his first single will be done once the chorus is finished, but that there’s no date for the project because “the powers that be are weird,” and “they pick whoever the f**k they want to be hot that year.”
Looks like fans will have to keep banging “Pyrex” and his Cops & Robbers mixtape in the mean time. Hear Gunplay speak more on his distaste for the game, Reebok’s decision to part ways with Rick Ross, and more in the full interview below.
