New Orleans isn’t just known for Mardi Gras, spicy cooking and Cash Money Records. The city also spawned its own regional brand of music known as “bounce,” and Big Freedia is considered one its most important contributors. This September on FUSE, Freedia will star in her own reality series, Big Freedia: The Queen Of Bounce.

The announcement for the show was made yesterday (June 10) from Hollywood, just as the unscripted series was finalizing production ahead of the debut. Although Freedia is regarded as an icon in the Big Easy, the show will focus on her struggles to break the specialized genre into the mainstream.

“I’m very excited to have the spotlight on Bounce music and culture,” said Big Freedia via a press statement. “I won’t lie though, having cameras on you all the time is stressful and this show is not short on drama. But hopefully I represent Bounce and NOLA in a way people can be proud of.”

The show is produced by the World Of Wonder production company, who has previously worked on a series of unscripted series such as RuPaul’s Drag Race, Life With La Toya, and Million Dollar Listing. The timing of the announcement couldn’t be more perfect for Freedia, as she’s set to hit the road with electro-pop band The Postal Service for her first amphitheater show starting July 16 in Vancouver.

Also featured on the series will be Mr. Ghetto, Sissy Nobby, and others in the Bounce scene trying to get on. Big Freedia: Queen Of Bounce will debut September 18 on FUSE.
