In the nearly 20-year existence of the Wu-Tang Clan, most of the credit has gone to the RZA for orchestrating many of the massive crew’s moves. In a recent interview, the Abbot discusses the final chapter of the Wu saga, recording his last solo record, the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and much more.

RZA chopped it up with Montreality, and they covered a wide range of topics. Opening up the interview by detailing his high school years, the legendary producer and rapper revealed what may have informed the early stages of the Clan. “I definitely was a student who listened and learned,” shared RZA. “When I got to high school, I was actually a guy that played a lot of hooky. I would leave the school, watch kung Fu movies and everything.”

No conversation with the RZA would be complete without bringing up his crew, and he shared how shaping the Clan’s final album, A Better Tomorrow, is coming along.

“The working title is A Better Tomorrow and that’s because we strive to have a better tomorrow,” explained RZA. “We had some good times, we had some bad times but if tomorrow is better than today, it’s worth reaching for. So we’re striving for a better tomorrow, not just for us but for our fans and people out there.”

Although RZA said it’s been hard to get his team in the studio, he shared that Method Man, Ghostface Killa, U-God and Masta Killa have all been working diligently on their own.

RZA hopes that with proper planning, the Wu-Tang Clan will drop A Better Tomorrow in November to directly coincide with the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).
