Bridget Kelly’s not shy about giving credit where it’s due. Roc Nation’s resident songstress is prepping the release of her debut, which features “Street Dreamin’,” a single assisted by Kendrick Lamar.

Hip-Hop Wired caught up with Kelly during ASCAP’s Rhythm and Soul Awards  in Beverly Hills Saturday (June 29), where Lamar was among the honorees. Like the TDE rapper, Kelly is a relatively new name added to music’s mainstream. “As an artist and a fan, I love him,” the 27-year-old tells us. “I think he’s a phenomenal artist, he has so many good things to say, so many truths to share. And he’s fun! I’m just happy for him.”

Kelly earned buzz for strong vocals, which she showcased filling in for Alicia Keys on various “Empire State of Mind” performances with Jay-Z. The  last couple of years have been about performing and working on her debut album, titled Something Different. Connecting with Lamar for the single –the third off the  forthcoming release, due out in September– was doubly exciting. “He’s shining right now,” she added.”To be apart of his journey and to have him be apart of mine, is a really beautiful thing.”
