Lil Mama will show off her acting chops in a major way this year. The “Lipgloss” rapper is set to make her debut as Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in the VH1 TLC biopic, currently in post-production.

The long-awaited film, Crazy, Sexy, Cool, tells the story of the top-selling girl group famously marred by financial problems, and the untimely death of Lopes. During a trip to Honduras, the rapping member of the threesome got into a car accident, and was thrown out of her vehicle. She was also the driver, and the only causality in the wreck. “Gettin’ into character to play Left Eye it was…emotional,”  Lil Mama tells us of the role.

TLC’s story is well-known by R&B fans the world over,  making the stakes for Lil Mama and her co-starsKeke Palmer (Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas), and Drew Sidora (Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins)–  that much higher. “It was challenging,” the Brooklyn native adds. “And it was fun.”
