As one third of the legendary Hip-Hop group Run DMC, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels has done it all in the world of music. Now, the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame inductee will embark on a new journey by launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund the Hip-Hop comic book publishing company, Darryl Makes Comics.

Joining DMC on the cleverly named comic imprint is art executive Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez and Atlantic Records music Executive Riggs Morales in editorial roles. The first novel, titled DMC, will feature the rapper as a crime fighting superhero in an alternate universe that will be inspired by his early days living in New York.

From the press release:

Set in hip-hop’s revolutionary era of the 80’s, the first comic features DMC as a superhero fighting for justice in an alternate universe. Wild Style-inspired graffiti covers every surface of this world as the true grit of pre-Giuliani New York is captured within the pages of the graphic novel.

Staying true to the independent spirit of hip-hop, DMC is self-funding this new chapter and invites everyone to share in the experience by contributing to get the comic book made via a Kickstarter campaign.

Artist Damion Scott, inker Dexter Vines and writer Ronald Wimberly round out the rest of the Darryl Makes Comics team. Marvel Comics artist Sal Buscema will provide the cover for the graphic novel.
