It looks like movie goers can expect a another quality piece with 12 Years A Slave, the film adaptation to an 1853 autobiography of the same name. Artist/actor turned director Steve McQueen — Hunger and Shame are his only previous work — captured the story, which follows Solomon Northup, a free Black circa 1841 who was captured and sold into slavery for 12 years.

A star studded cast that includes Chiwetelu “Chiwetel” Ejiofor in the starring role, Michael Fassbender (who stared in McQueen’s previous feats), Brad Pitt, Alfre Woodard, Paul Giamatti, and more.

The riveting tale and the ensemble cast almost ensure that the adapted screenplay will make waves at next year’s 86th Academy Awards.

12 Years A Slave is due in theaters October 18. See it below and share your thoughts in the comments. Think it will be an Oscar nominee?
