Over the weekend at Comic-Con 2013, a major bombshell was unleashed for fans of DC Comics. It was officially announced Saturday (July 20) evening that Batman will make an appearance alongside Superman in the Man Of Steel sequel.

Director Zack Snyder has already hit the jackpot with his reboot of the Superman franchise after raking in $630 million so far at the box office. However, Snyder surprised fans and attendees at the close of the Warner Bros.-Legendary Pictures panel during Comic-Con in an unplanned appearance saying, “It’s official that we are going to make another Superman movie.”

But in a following press statement, news that the Caped Crusader will be appearing in the film also turned heads.

From Warner Bros. And DC Entertainment:

Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con today, breaking the news to audiences there, later said, “I’m so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can’t wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter.  Let’s face it, it’s beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world.”

Henry Cavill will return to the lead role of Clark Kent/Superman,and the sequel will bring back co-stars Amy Adams, who will return as love interest Lois Lane, along with Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The film begins production in 2014 with a scheduled 2015 release date. The new Batman actor has yet to be announced, but fans can be assured Christian Bale will not be reprising the role.

Could this mean a Justice League movie is around the corner?
